I travelled over to stay at my parents in Derby on Saturday 23rd to get my Christmas week's Midlands souling off to a great start at Annesley. I quickly concluded it had been far too long since I'd last been (over a year), I'd just not been staying in Derby on the right weekends in the month throughout 2006. Simply arriving there starts with such a warm welcome at the door, and the atmosphere was so friendly throughout. It was good to be introduced to Ginger Taylor who was guesting, he did a great spot, as did the residents, kept the floor busy including myself on it a lot. It is often thought of as an "oldies" venue like many in that area but there was a very across the board range played. The friendliness was shown at its best as a few of us danced in a circle "group hug" style to the last tune.
I don't consciously make New Year Resolutions most of the time but one for 2007 must definitely be to visit Annesley more often, as the Shed in Beeston is 2nd Fridays of the month and Annesley is 2nd Saturdays that makes for a good Nottinghamshire double bill of a weekend.
