Concluding my festive week write ups, the New Year's Eve All-nighter at Stoke on Trent. Arrived almost spot on the 9pm opening time, straight after getting out of the car the people parked next to me recognised me, they were from Carlisle but have relations in Notts and had recognised me from venues there before. The doors of this grand hall were already open and I walked in really feeling the excitement. To start with I didn't look who was on the decks but about quarter of an hour in I heard my name mentioned and I saw it was Sean Chapman. During those first two hours as the hall filled up I met up with more friends I hadn't seen for a while.
By 11 I had started to really get into dancing and Nige Brown from Stafford was DJing for this last hour of 2006, and the hour passed quickly. Kev came on stage just before midnight and read tributes to soul artists who had passed away this year, and people from the northern scene too, then said "Happy New Year everyone". Oddly there was not a Countdown or Auld Lang Syne, must admit these would have added to the atmosphere and there had been last year, but when Kev said Happy New Year everyone took that moment to let off their party poppers and commence the inevitable exchanges of new year hugs with Out on the Floor in the background as the first track of 2007, it was still a nice atmosphere and about 20 minutes later I'd found everyone I knew to exchange new year greetings.
I stayed to 3.40am, I'd had a great night, and indeed great week. Only shame was to wake up really rough with a cold at 9 in the morning, still at least it had held off until after I'd got back from Stoke. I missed Peterborough last week as I was still a bit rough at the time, now had two restful weekends.
