My 9th time at this excellent weekender, I arrived and unpacked at my B&B just gone 5pm on Friday. Arrived at the venue ready to party at 9, didn't take much time to get on the dancefloor. Soon enjoyed plenty of sounds in both the main northern and modern rooms and stayed there to just after 3am.
Popped in on the more laid back Saturday afternoon session, then in for the main all-nighter that would be complete with the live acts. A new bit of trivia I learned from the programme is one of the Apollas is H B's sister Billie. I know not everyone is into live acts, I usually enjoy them, there are some I haven't enjoyed as much as others but this show just blew me away, I think it was definitely the one I'd enjoyed the best since 2003 when it had been Dean Parrish and Maxine Brown. It make the night even more special to make the most of the opportunity to go and meet them in the suite upstairs to get my programme signed and have photos taken, all were so friendly. Afterwards back to the dancefloors, I remained until 5am, sure enough I lost most of Sunday morning finally waking up at 1.45pm.
;D
Was in for the afternoon again, then the Sunday night was the final party, with a few more records from more mainstream soul. Unique features of Cleethorpes Sundays I don't hear of elsewhere are the fancy dress competition and ritual humiliation of DJs, in the past that included them doing karaoke and musical chairs, this years' new idea was British Bulldogs. Dance another Sunday night at Cleethorpes away and before I knew it the Four Tops' classic Baby I Need Your Loving was playing just after 2.30am, this song having been the weekend's ender as long as I've known. All over for another year but so fantastic.
