Been thinking about him lately - another soul legened in the sky - does anyone have any special memories of Edwin Starr; performances, chance meetings, conversations etc. Would love to hear your thoughts. . . For me, the last time I saw him perform live was in Northampton at the Northampton show (or something like that, it was open air with lots of stalls, fair rides and other stuff - a real family affair). It was a good 10 years ago, if not more - but he was fantastic and blew the audience away with his massive stage prescence, he knew how to make me feel H A P P Y ;D ;D

I am lucky to know I got to see Edwin play live 3 times in Kings Lynn. The first time was in 1997 or 98 and he was on with the Pasadenas and Jaki Graham, second time with Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson of the Supremes in 2000, both of these concerts were at the town's "Corn Exchange" venue. Jen you are so right about his way with the audience, he humourously asked everyone if "Security had told us to remain seated at all times" or "were we all just glued to our seats." The hint was there, he wanted the audience up and dancing. The 3rd and final time was at an outdoor festival they always do every year in July on the large Market place. Edwin was the main act on the last day of this festival in 2001 and a superb set he did too. It was a fine warm July evening and the audience were so up for it. Very fond memories indeed. Alan

Many great rallies on the IOW - often too out of my tree to notice who was playing though; saying that I remember meeting Bad Manners on the ferry on the way over and they dedicated a song (Lorraine I think) to all us skin-head girls
