Was slightly apprehensive about trying to find this venue as it is more in the city centre than the Post Office and Railway clubs that are more edge of town, however someone had posted some directions to the nearest car park on EASC's new message board, followed these and got there OK shortly after 9pm, exchanged hellos with a few regulars and found the upstairs Northern room.
I was delighted to find Sister Dawn at the decks and she was playing some "forgotten" oldies somewhat underplayed of late, plenty more of the Lincoln crew had also come down in a minibus so it was a nice surprise to see them. Had my first few dances to Dawn's set then explored to find the modern room at the back downstairs where pals Steve 'Jay' Jackson from near Spalding and Kev Laws from Norwich were playing, they like to play less known 70s and 80s which I enjoy as well. I found I divided my time between the rooms, the Northern room got very hot and it wasn't even completely full so not too much dancing there in one go. Also DJing in the Northern room were Andy Smudge Smith, Paul Donnelly, Doug Hall and resident Mick Cooper (bet I've probably still missed someone). Between the front hallway and modern room is a lounge area making for a nice chillout space that so few venues have.
It had crossed my mind that Peterborough may become swamped, the venues' music policies do seem to make them sufficiently different however. The Railway club is well known as an all-out Oldies night, the City club is certainly the one for underplayed tunes and the only one to have its own modern room, while the Post Office is somewhat midway between. I'm glad I've done the City club this month, I'll miss it in December as I'm in Derby for the whole Christmas to New Year week as I've got a ticket for New Years Eve at Stoke on Trent.
