Didn't have a good journey up on Friday evening, the A52 between Boston and Skegness is not the nicest of roads at the best of times, let alone with the evening's heavy rainfall creating lots of spray, but still arrived safely just before 8 at the same B&B where I've always stayed.
Once inside the venue though I was soon happily soaking up the buzzing atmosphere meeting and greeting friends. I've always liked how the 2 rooms are split between "oldies" upstairs and "underplayeds" in "The Vault", as opposed to the usual "Northern" and "Modern" rooms. Upstairs was always characteristically hot with the sheer volume of people dancing to the fastest records so I often popped downstairs for the easier pace. This may be one of the smaller weekenders, as opposed to the likes of Cleethorpes and Prestatyn, but the community spirit of the Northern soul scene comes out at its very best, it was really nice to be introduced to plenty of new friendly people with many saying hi having recognised me from elsewhere, as well as catching up with longer term friends. Between the tabled seating area and dancefloor there was a banner up which read "Smiling Faces, a Dancing Beat, a Real Treat for Your Feet" and that just summed up the event so perfectly.
Between checking out of the B&B on Sunday at 10 and going to the venue at 12, the morning wouldn't have been complete without popping into "Aroma" the 50s/60s themed coffee bar where so many soulies congregate. Thought Sunday afternoon's session in the venue seemed busier than usual too and it was hard to leave at 4.15 but my body clock was telling me to.
Roll on the end of next March for the next one, on saying goodbye to Dave Raistrick, I said he could expect my booking soon. The B&B landlady has already booked me in, she did when the other soulie couple from Kettering staying there checked out and gave her the next dates so she booked me too.
