Welcome to the first day of September 2006 Well, that came along rather quickly. One minute I was in awe at the high temperatures of July, then August came and went in a woosh of dark and damp. Yet, here we are today with sunshine and warmth, just as the schools are ready to start up for the Autumn term with excited parents preparing to send their adored off-spring back into the clutches of classrooms, teachers and that awful thing they call school-work. I'm happy - sitting here munching on my sherbert pips (or dods as we called them at school), which I've just found in a new shop in town (well, I think it's new, haven't been to town for ages). There I was suddenly surrounded by all these sweets which I hadn't come across since school. My kids were amazed how mummy's face lit up and that suddenly, not only were they allowed a few treats themselves - they only get them on special occasions - but mummy bought some all for herself ;D Anyone else have any memories of their favourite sweeties from days gone by? I also loved sherbert lemons, and cola cubes. If I remember, I'll bring some sweets, such as the ones I've mentioned, to the next Northern nite and share them with my friends

I'm having a day of sugary treats today. I don't indulge them too often - my philosophy is that old saying, 'a little bit of what you fancy does you good' - but today is the last day of the week, the first day of September and I'm leaving my family to fend for itself during the next week, so it's a bit of a goodbye thing. So, I'm enjoying (along with my sherbert pips) a Walnut Whip (who's gonna feel sick later?), and anyway, it's got me thinking... when I was a little girl, my nan used to have them and she'd always give me the bottom part which had a walnut attached to it (aswell as the one on the top). The ones you get today have a walnut on the top but not inside - so what's that all about

Reply to Coops: Very witty Coops or should I say nutty? Should have kept quiet about the sun being out Friday, coz it's gone again - it felt very wintery today, in fact the weather was so bad that when I accidently left the hand-brake off in a car park earlier, the wind blew the car into the vehicle parked directly opposite and cracked its bumper I NEVER leave the hand-brake off (she says), it's typical that the first time I forget to put it on a fluke wind blows and I get in trouble - doh! It's my second bump in nearly twenty years of driving
