Part 3 of my Midlands triple last week after Ilkeston and Mansfield, arriving just after 10.30. Didn't take too long to find the hotel, seemed quite plush inside. Could hear the music playing above the reception area and the security man directed me. Fortunately one of the Burton chaps found me almost straight away as I got to the corridor by the main room and introduced me to the rest of their group, after quick introductory mingling we soon got dancing. The playlist was mainly oldie oriented, certainly danceable stuff. It was very hot in this room though so it paid to pace oneself. I am guessing this night isn't that well known outside of Derby, there weren't flyers for their own next night, though a banner advertised that they were always on the last Saturday of the month, let alone any flyers for other nights. If there was just one downside to the venue its proximitiy to Derby city centre did mean a few folks came in that were just there to drink rather than for being soulies, noticed the bar being very densely packed but fortunately no-one disrupted the dancefloor. The group I'd met up with had been really welcoming though and I'd enjoyed the night overall, bringing an excellent weekend in the midlands to its conclusion.

Re: > have posted this review on my main webby, hope that's OK Good thinking Jen, as I was saying the venue didn't seem well known outside of Derby it could be good for it to have a few more write ups online on different sites. I posted the same review to the www.northernsoulmusic.co.uk board too.
