Friday 10th - It takes a very special occasion for me to actually miss Soul Ole at Peterborough Post Office, but this night in Beeston, outer Nottingham was due to be a meetup on Paddy Grady's message board on Friends Reunited Connections, they'd designated it as a warm-up the night before they'd be seeing the Velvelettes in Northampton. Additionally I'll be in Peterborough the next 2 Fridays anyway with the Velvelettes on 17th and City Club on 24th.
This "Shed" is Beeston's community centre, the room used for the night is an octagon shape with a stage, seating at tables round the edge and a large dancefloor. Ann from the message board who I'd last seen at Whitby weekender spotted me almost straight after I arrived and introduced me to the 4 others there that I hadn't met before, the other couple I'd met at Ilkeston arrived a few minutes later, soon met up with folks I knew from other venues in Notts as well. The sounds were a fair mix of "classic Northern", "Modern Oldie" and Motown, all very danceable. Enough people in to make a good atmosphere, at the same time not too crowded so space on the dancefloor was comfortable.
This night runs on 2nd Fridays of the month, I'd certainly go more often if I lived a lot nearer.

Sounds like another interesting venue Alan. My family are from Nottingham and I remember going to a few Notts Palais all-nighters in the 80s. Have to put this venue on the 'what's on' page. Glad you had a good night, will see you at the Velvetlettes. KTF Lovinthesoul
