My other port of call this weekend was Rugby's Benn Hall, a well established venue which caters noticeably for the underplayed side of northern. There is one large main room and a smaller one known as the "Freestyle" room, but even sets in the main room included many underplayed tracks, a lot I really liked and didn't know what they were, some of the early R&B played wasn't my own cuppa but I appreciate its place for those who do enjoy it. Sets in both rooms provided something for everyone in terms of classic and underplayed Northern, Modern and R&B. The night seems to draw a wide geographically spread crowd, met up with people from Herts, London and Leeds alike, hadn't seen some of them since June at the Cleethorpes weekender, it did seem quieter than when I'd been before in April but as well as the Velvelettes in Northampton there was also the Blackpool Tower weekender on as well, nevertheless another good night which combined with Beeston had made a great weekend.
