It is now 4 years since I first started doing Skegness Weekenders and in that time they have become special highlights of the Northern Soul calendar for me. Had a quick look at Coops's review and pictures on the new site skegnesssoul.org/default.aspx, and lo and behold there is yet another new message board on that site too. I always say in my write-ups that I like to divide my time between the two rooms. Upstairs was as packed and hot as ever and sure I enjoyed dancing on that main floor as much as ever, but did like to pop down to sample the easier pace of the downstairs "Vault" too. I particularly enjoyed the sets from Pete Taylor, Andy Riley and Rupe, Sean Chapman, Sam Evans and of course our own Coops, with some really good underplayed crossover sounds. I heard it said that some records got over-repeated upstairs, I couldn't personally have said which ones as I'd have been downstairs at the times. The friendly spirit of the scene really comes home at Skegness, great for seeing plenty of local friends, those from further away, meeting new people too as there's always someone's friend of a friend to be newly introduced to. Dave and Donna's coffee shop "Tamla", newly opened when the March weekender was on, was really nice as somewhere to pop in for an early cuppa and chat. I checked out of the B&B on Sunday morning and the landlady got me promptly booked in for both of next years dates as she's already had a few advance bookings for the summer, that's being a regular for you.....roll on March Alan
